Originally released in 2006, Southern Comfort: 200 Proof was my first mixtape and one of the first projects that brought MIDIMarc from behind the boards to the forefront.

The tape featured my remixes of records from Project Pat, T.I., Young Jeezy, Ray Cash, Young Pro and more, alongside comedy skits from Ice Mike and appearances from FatRat Da Czar, DJ Cannon Banyon, Preach Jacobs and N’telligence.

I sold burned CDs hand-to-hand, straight out of the trunk of my silver Chevy Impala, while sharing the project online through DatPiff and promoting the music on MySpace. It came from an era when Columbia’s mixtape scene lived both online and outside—in malls, clubs, venues, Five Points, the Vista and wherever artists could put their music directly into somebody’s hands.

Twenty years later, Southern Comfort: 200 Proof is a snapshot of that time and an early blueprint for what MIDIMarc would become.

This re-release is for the ones who remember. Maybe you downloaded it from DatPiff. Maybe you bought one from my trunk. Maybe you heard a remix on MySpace. Hell, maybe we were in each other’s Top 8. 😂
